Why choose Aspie Plumbing & Heating Ltd?

Aspie Plumbing & Heating Ltd is Dan Widger, and Dan is who turns up. No call centre, no subcontractors. He has worked in plumbing and heating for over a decade, has run his own business since 2017 and set the company up in 2021. Most work still arrives by recommendation, which only happens if the last job was right.

The credentials behind that are real and checkable. Dan is Gas Safe registered, MCS certified under certificate number APH-48289 for heat pump installations, and a member of the APHC Competent Person Scheme. On renewable work, including air source heat pumps, we adhere to the RECC rules, the Renewable Energy Consumer Code approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute.

The speciality is whole systems rather than single appliances. Heat loss calculations get done, flow temperatures get set, and the heating curve gets tuned before Dan leaves. Afterwards you get the same number and the same engineer, for the annual service or for the day something stops working.

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What areas do you cover?

We cover Bromley, Chislehurst, Bexley and Sevenoaks as our main areas, along with Sidcup, Orpington, Swanley, Westerham and the surrounding villages. If you are just outside that, call 07748 945795 and we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you.

How long have you been trading?

Dan has worked in plumbing and heating for over a decade and has been self-employed since 2017. Aspie Plumbing & Heating Ltd was incorporated in July 2021 and is registered in England and Wales under company number 13518085.

Are you Gas Safe registered?

Yes. All gas work is carried out by a Gas Safe registered engineer. We are also MCS certified under number APH-48289 for heat pump installations and members of the APHC Competent Person Scheme, and we work to the RECC consumer code on all renewable installations.

Do you charge for a quote?

No. Quotes are free. For anything more involved than a straight swap we will want to see the property first, because a figure given without looking at the pipework and the radiators is a guess rather than a quote.

What are your working hours?

Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 18:00. We are closed at weekends. We do not advertise a 24-hour call-out service, because we would rather be honest about that than promise something we cannot reliably deliver.

Who will actually turn up?

Dan will. Aspie Plumbing & Heating Ltd is owner-led and Dan attends every job himself, so the person who quotes the work is the person who carries it out.

What brands of boiler do you install?

Viessmann, Alpha, Worcester and Vaillant are our preferred brands, but we will install other brands at the customer's request. Those four are preferred because they hold up well over time and spare parts are easy to source when they are eventually needed.

What is the length of warranty on a new boiler?

This can be anywhere from 5 to 13 years depending on brand and model. We register the warranty with the manufacturer as part of the installation and give you the paperwork. Keeping up the annual service is what keeps that warranty valid.

How much does a new boiler cost?

Boiler installations start from £2,800 supplied and fitted. The final figure depends on the boiler you choose, whether the position is changing, and what the existing pipework and controls need. You get a firm price after the survey, not a range.

How long does a boiler installation take?

A straightforward swap in the same position is usually a single day. Moving the boiler, changing the system type or upgrading pipework and controls takes longer, and we will tell you which yours is before you commit.

Do you take the old boiler away?

Yes. Removal and disposal of the old appliance is included, and the work is notified to Building Control as part of the installation.

Can I pay in stages?

Payment terms are agreed in writing before work starts, and we are happy to talk through what suits you. Nothing is taken until you have a written quote you are happy with.

Are you MCS registered?

Yes. Our MCS certification number is APH-48289. We are able to process the application for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme for eligible customers, so the grant is deducted from your quote rather than being something you have to claim back yourself.

What is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme?

It is a government grant towards the cost of replacing a fossil fuel heating system with a heat pump. Only MCS certified installers can apply for it, and we handle the application on your behalf. We confirm whether your property is eligible before any work is agreed.

How much does a heat pump cost?

Heat pumps are quoted after a full heat loss survey, because the price depends on the size of unit, the cylinder, and how much of the existing system needs changing. Quoting a heat pump without that survey is how people end up with a system that does not heat the house.

Do I need new radiators for a heat pump?

Sometimes, but not always. A heat pump runs at a lower flow temperature than a boiler, so each radiator has to be big enough to give out the same heat at that lower temperature. The heat loss survey tells us room by room which ones need changing and which are already fine.

What is the RECC consumer code?

For all renewable technologies, including heat pumps, we adhere to the RECC rules. The Renewable Energy Consumer Code is approved by the Chartered Trading Standards Institute and covers quotations, deposits, cancellation and cooling-off rights and how complaints are handled. You can read it in full at recc.org.uk and you are welcome to contact us for more information.

Will a heat pump work with underfloor heating?

Very well. Underfloor heating runs at a low flow temperature by design, which is exactly what a heat pump wants, so the two together are usually the most efficient combination we can fit.

Can I have underfloor heating?

In most cases yes. We are able to fit wet underfloor heating in a range of properties with differing floor build-ups, from new build slabs through to low-profile systems laid over an existing floor during a renovation.

How much does underfloor heating cost?

Underfloor heating starts from £1,500. The figure depends on the floor area, the type of floor construction and how many separately controlled zones you want, so we price it after seeing the property.

Will it raise my floor height?

A little, and how much depends on the system. A screeded castellated panel build-up needs more depth than a low-profile overlay system. We will tell you the exact build-up before you commit, because it affects doors and thresholds.

Is underfloor heating expensive to run?

Not when it is set up correctly. It runs at a lower flow temperature than radiators, which is more efficient, but only if the heating curve and controls are commissioned properly. That commissioning is part of the job, not an optional extra.

Can you fit it in just one room?

Yes. A single room, such as a kitchen or a bathroom extension, is a common job. We can run it as its own zone off the existing system or as an electric system where a wet circuit is not practical.

How long does it take to install?

For a single room it is usually a couple of days plus screed drying time. A whole house forms part of a wider refurbishment programme, and we will give you a schedule that fits around the other trades.

How often should my boiler be serviced?

Boiler manufacturers recommend that a boiler is serviced every year to maintain its warranty, if still in date, and to keep the boiler working as it should.

Boiler service or safety check?

A safety check is a bit like an MOT where the boiler is literally checked for safe operation and that it has been installed correctly. A service on the other hand means dismantling parts of the boiler and cleaning or replacing components as required by the manufacturer to ensure long-term safe and efficient operation.

How much is a boiler service?

Servicing starts from £120. If anything is found that needs attention, you get the cost before we do the work, never afterwards.

My boiler has stopped working, what happens now?

Call 07748 945795 and describe what it is doing. Dan will often have a good idea of the likely cause over the phone. On site we diagnose the actual fault, explain what has failed, and quote the repair before starting.

Is it worth repairing an older boiler?

Sometimes it is and sometimes it is not. If the repair cost is approaching what a replacement would be, or the same appliance keeps failing, we will say so plainly rather than sell you a repair that buys a few months.

Do you service boilers you did not install?

Yes. We service and repair all the common domestic makes, whoever fitted them.
